I recently launched a small accessories line with a functioning e-commerce site. However, my current site manager does not return my calls and emails within 48 hours. He is not reliable and I need someone who can maintain my site.
Here is what I am looking for:
1. Has ideas for layouts, font suggestions, etc
2. Understands what women ages 16 - 35 are reading, buying, shopping, and talking about so the site will continue to cater towards their visual needs

I currently have a site on a server and I'm looking for someone creative with open source code, and determined to "make it right". It is not up and running completely. It needs a few tweaks. Graphic changes, table changes, etc.
I had a partner that was going to make the changes pro bono, with a piece of the profits being shared. He has become too busy to finish. 95% of the site is good. I just need someone to make a few changes. Probably a day or two's work....thats his estimate. To me, not a bad return for your time. It could be worth a few thousand if it takes off.
I really need someone that is skilled in all aspects. I am not interested with beginners. I hope Im not asking too much.

I'm looking fro someone who is skilled working in css, h,264 video, and simple web 2.0 animations for my artist's portfolio site.
The current site has been under construction for 6 months and hasn't made any progress due to my designer dropping out of the project.
What I need is a professional person who can work with open standards and has an eye for minimalist modern design.
There are around 70 still images and around 11-5 videos that need to streamed in H.264 format. I do not want to use any flash what soever in this project, and if you aren't comfortable not using flash this is not the site for you to work on. I am looking for the site to be clear and easily to navigate.
Things to draw some inspiration from are, frosted glass over a black lacquer table, something physical, valuable and beautiful. my website is wilderbuck.com, so that you have an understanding of where I want to go, but there needs to be a major overhaul of most of it. In addition the site has to have a brother mobil site for viewing on an iphone.
To qualify for this job you must live in or near the westside, so that we meet up and exchange ideas, and own a mac, or at least use safari as the default browser for working on the site. But it would make everything easier if this was done on a mac. The pay is around $500 for the work, and increase depending of time and expenences.
Please be aware that my site contains videos of men involved in gay sex, but is not a pornography site in any way.

We Are a small local print shop in Se Portland with a ton of capabilities. Basically our website has been started and then abandoned by our developer. The designing is completed and everything is ready to plug in button images, photos, t-shirt images, etc.. and anything else can be created by myself if needed. What we need is someone who is a veteran in the website field who can take what I want to do and and program it we will need a shopping cart and E-COMMERCE capabilities. What we want will be a fully functional t-shirt, sticker, patches, buttons selling website with a blog page to show videos on the home page. The design images are done we just need programming. I have a flash website for my photography and it has some bugs that I don't know how to fix. It was designed by someone else and they are too busy to work on it.
For example, on the resume page, the formatting of the resume is wrong. And there is a link to download a pdf of the resume, but it doesn't work.
Also, on 2 of the portfolio pages, some of the thumbnails don't appear or the wrong ones are there even though the folders on the ftp have what they're supposed to.
And some other small things. I would like to work on this together so I can learn how to fix little things in the future.
The site has been problematic for a while so there is no rush to fix it. Sometime after the new year.

Not looking for a huge company to design my personal site, but either a freelancer or small, local web design outfit.
I'm an artist/photographer (polaroid-ist) and graphic designer and would like to showcase these talents in a site. I already have the domain (www.XXXXXXX.com) and a server. But, seeing as the last guy that tried to build my website turned out to either be a crack-head or some foreign species of a being, I only have a temporary site.
I designed the graphics for the guy in Photoshop and he was going to do the developmental end. I would still like to do it this way unless presented with a better option. I would like to use some Flash for the "galleries" as I think this might be a bit more fitting for the kinds of presentations I'd like to see in the final product.
I am paying - don't know how much. I could also work in trade if the opportunity presented itself.

I am a start-up company in Seattle and recently had a friend do some work for me on developing a flash website. But they ran out of time before they got it completed. Plus, I've decided that I don't want a flash site anymore and want to move more toward a dynamic HTML page.
The work shouldn't be that intense, I just need it done. I can compensate but probably not what you are worth. I'm hoping to find someone that wants to help a start-up get off the ground. I'll also throw in some of my product -- which just so happens to be beer.

Was working with a web designer for the past month who was moving very slowly to get the redesign of my website done. 1 month into the project, she quits.
Good thing for me, because at her rate was never going to get done!
What I have: I have the basic design of the website as a screen shot. After much coaching and direction I was overall, somewhat happy with the general design.
What I need from you: Tweak the website to make it look better. Put it online. Fill in the text and layout the other pages of the website. Seeking a fast turnaround - 2 weeks - or this weekend - hey, why not!
Looking for: someone with great design and program skills and has 3-5 website designs you can forward me so I can take a look at your past work.

I've discovered that I don't have the patience or the mental capacity to build a website for my business, and I need some help. Nothing fancy, maybe 3 or 4 pages with e-commerce. I have all of the copy, I just need the design and implementation.

I purchased a website done in wordpress format, I'm unbelievably happy with the site. I had asked the individual to design over time several more sites with the same template. Unfortunatly this guy is slow, he never meets his deadlines, near impossible to get ahold of, and frankly I'm tired of wasting my time. He has several plug ins he's using on the site, I'd have to sit down with someone and show them the admin on this site along with the programs that are plugged in and you can tell me if this is somthing you can emulate. I really need someone who knows wordpress well, very well. If you meet some of these criteria email me, I need someone who can really meet deadline's. I don't have a lot of money for this project as I'm trying to recoup my deposit from a designer that never produced any work. Therefore, I need a talented and legitimate designer that will work with my low budget and accept installments. I may even be able to help with some of the work if necessary.

I am a successful small business owner going through a re-branding.
I have done much of the design work myself but would be more than happy to have someone else clean it up. Otherwise, you can use all my graphics and just do the programming. I need a largely static informative website with a sample gallery of my work. I will only be updating the gallery a few times a year. I do not want flash. I would like for the gallery to have a roll over effect to help show before and after images. I already have the java code written for that if you want it.
I have already registered the domain and I already have hosting. I don't need a CMS, but do need a way to update the gallery. I'm ok with using an existing gallery program like Coppermine or Gallery2 as long as it flows seamlessly (or nearly) with the rest of the site. I don't need e commerce, I just need to advertise my business so I can communicate with my clients.
My time line on this project is very tight. I have had 3 designers (all of whom were friends of friends) decide they were too busy to work on this or just stop responding to my emails since September. Originally, I wanted it done before the new year. Because of the nature of my business, I need to do almost all of my advertising NOW so that I have clients locked in by early April.
This should be a fairly straight forward project but I do have a very tight budget. I am happy to work for either trade or pay.

Hi,I am looking for a web designer to modify my existing flash website.
I have a small video production company and I created the design for the website, then my web designer put it all together and posted it on the web,(he fell off the map so I'm out looking for a replacement.)
I would like to modify the existing website by changing the videos posted,adding more still images in the design, and maybe adding 1 more page under the same design.

I do not expect you to read many of the entries here - but if you just scroll down the page, you'll see the SHEER VOLUME of bad experiences people have had trying to cut corners and selecting the wrong developer...
(I spend very little time updating this page!)

I don't care if you hire me or not for your job, but believe me, I do care when people waste money, and make poor business decisions - because they don't know any better.

MOST ONLINE FREELANCER DESIGNERS AND DEVELOPERS DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU OR YOUR PROJECT - THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY.

They aren't interested in whether or not your strategy will work, or if your goals are feasible. They will say anything to get you "in bed" with them, and get as much money as they can from you, and then move on to the next guy.

If you read through some of these posts you'll see that many are dealing with below market rate budgets.

DO NOT cut corners on your budget and underbid your business endeavors.

The road to making money on the internet does not start with this sign post.

If you do not have the budget to get something done correctly, rethink what you need to get done.

Strategy is key to success.

This email came in almost exactly 1 month after my intial contact with this individual - so in essence he wasted a month of development time (I didn't ask how much money), and of course the stress of not getting his work done, and having to start from scratch...

AMATEUR PITFALLS

Actively pursuing design/development opportunities online I come across COUNTLESS posts, and deal with SO MANY clients who have tried to cut corners their first time around. These people hired an Amateur, used a Friend, or tried to get someone to work solely on spec or on a barter basis.

The results are never good.

Recently I decided to start collecting some of these posts, and display them here together. These excerpts act as a quick reference - real world example, for the kind of nonsense, grief, budget increasing craftsmanship and overall trouble that dealing with a non-professional will most likely bring.

Ideally, I would have linked some of the partial and substandard work associated with these posts, but for privacy purposes I have removed all contact info and references back to their respective wesbites. These are my only edits.

Believe me these are all real... and only a FRACTION of the posts I've come across.

I can't stress enough to small businesses moving into the internet for the first time. Don't go for the cheapest solution you can find, use a reliable - professional developer.
